For his leadership and valor, Captain Peterburs was awarded the Silver Star, the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Purple Heart with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation, the Republic of Korea War Service Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
Notes
Captain Peterburs was a veteran of World War II. In Korea, he was a member of Headquarters Company, 3rd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division. On November 2, 1950, his battalion was covering the withdrawal on the Division near Unsan, North Korea. A Chinese commando raid on his command post killed or wounded most of the staff. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
