For his leadership and valor, Lieutenant Lee was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with Gold Star, the Purple Heart, the Combat Action Ribbon, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.

Lieutenant Lee was the pilot of a F2H-2 Banshee jet fighter with Fighter Squadron 11 aboard carrier USS KEARSARGE (CV-33). On December 30, 1952, while attacking camouflaged supply buildings east of Majon-ni, North Korea, his aircraft was struck by anti-aircraft fire and crashed. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
