Today, the American Battle Monuments Commission commemorated the liberation of the Netherlands in 1944, during the 15th iteration of the Netherlands Liberation Concert. This event was hosted in friendship at the Netherlands American Cemetery and Memorial in Margraten.

In order to fulfill our commemorative mission, and in keeping with current precautionary measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19, all Memorial Day ceremonies will be closed to the public.

In light of the current COVID-19 pandemic and to ensure the health and safety of our staff and visitors per U.S. and host-nation guidelines, the American Battle Monuments Commission (ABMC) has cancelled all public Memorial Day ceremonies at our 26 cemeteries around the world.

While ABMC sites are closed to the public, ABMC cemetery superintendents keep making sure that the resting places of our fallen service members are well taken care of. The have taken over the mowers, and keep raising and lowering our colors every single day.
The Month of the Military Child, observed in April, celebrates the past and present bravery and sacrifice of U.S. service members’ children on the home front.
