Staff Sergeant Zawtocki was a member of the Combat Air Group III, Marine Air Force. On February 8, 1968, he was taken prisoner while fighting on the ground. He died in captivity at Camp ST18, Quang Nam Province, South Vietnam. His remains were recovered on August 14, 1985 and identified on November 4, 1985. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
