Commander Yarbrough was a member of Attack Squadron 85, Carrier Air Wing 11 aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS KITTY HAWK (CVA-63). On January 19, 1967, he was the bombardier/navigator of a Grumman Attack Aircraft Intruder (A-6A) flying near Thanh Hoa, North Vietnam when his aircraft was hit by anti-aircraft fire. He tried to bail out but his parachute did not open. His remains were recovered on August 14, 1985 and identified on October 7, 1985. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
