First Lieutenant Xavier was a member of the Marine Attack Squadron 311, Marine Attack Group 12, 1st Marine Air Wing. On March 10, 1966, he was the pilot of a Douglas Attack Aircraft Skyhawk (A-4C) flying over Quang Nam, South Vietnam, when his aircraft crashed. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
