Captain Weatherby was a member of the 45th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron. On July 29, 1965, he was the pilot of a McDonnell Voodoo Reconnaissance Fighter (RF-101C) on a mission over North Vietnam, when his aircraft crashed. His remains were recovered on August 27, 1978 and identified on September 11, 1978. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
