Commander Tucker was a member of Fighter Squadron 24, Carrier Air Wing 21 aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS BON HOMME RICHARD (CVA-31). On April 24, 1967, he was the pilot of a Vought Crusader Fighter (F-8C) on a protection mission for the bombing of the rail lines near Hon Gay, Quang Ninh Province, North Vietnam. His aircraft was hit by 85mm anti-aircraft fire and crashed. He bailed out but was injured and died at the city hospital. His remains were recovered on November 25, 1987. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
