Lieutenant Colonel Treect was a member of the 12th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron at Tan Son Nhut Air Base, South Vietnam. On October 7, 1966, he was the pilot of a McDonnell Phantom II Reconnaissance Fighter (RF-4C) on a night photographic mission in the vicinity of Hue, South Vietnam, when his aircraft crashed in the Gulf of Tonkin. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
