Chief Aviation Pilot Tinklepaugh was a veteran of World War II, serving at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. During the Korean War, he was assigned to the Naval Air Station, San Diego, California assisting with the evacuation of the Korean wounded from Japan to the United States. On April 12, 1952, he was enroute to Moffitt Field, California, to spend Easter with his family when his aircraft crashed.
