Lance Corporal Terwilliger was a member of the Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 163, Marine Air Group 16, 1st Marine Air Wing. On March 13, 1967, he was flying in a Sikorsky Seahorse Utility Helicopter (UH-34D) on an extraction mission 14 miles northeast of Khe San, South Vietnam, when the helicopter was shot down. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
