First Lieutenant Stewart was awarded the Purple Heart, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
Notes
First Lieutenant Stewart was the pilot of a F-84E Thunderjet fighter with the 523rd Fighter Escort Squadron, 27th Fighter Escort Wing. On April 23, 1951, while on a combat mission, he was returning to base for an emergency landing. His aircraft exploded and he was not able to bail out successfully.
