Staff Sergeant Staehli was a member of Company L, 3rd Battalion, 9th Marines, 3rd Marine Division. On April 30, 1968, he was declared missing while fighting the enemy near Dong Ha, South Vietnam. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
