Notes
Sergeant First Class Smothermon was a member of Headquarters Company, 3rd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division. He was wounded while fighting the enemy in Korea on September 4, 1950 and returned to duty later that day. He was Killed in Action while fighting the enemy near Unsan, North Korea on November 2, 1950. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
