Commander Skeen was a member of Tactical Electronic Warfare Squadron 135, Carrier Air Wing 15 aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS CORAL SEA (CVA-43). On May 16, 1970, he was the pilot of a Special Electronic Tanker (EKA-3B) over South Vietnam when his aircraft crashed offshore. His remains were not recovered.
