Lieutenant Junior Grade Schroeffel was a member of Attack Squadron 85, Carrier Air Wing 11 aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS KITTY HAWK (CVA-63). On February 18, 1966, he was a crew member of a Grumman Attack Aircraft Intruder (A-6A) over North Vietnam when his aircraft crashed. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
