Captain Scheurich was a member of Attack Squadron 35, Carrier Air Wing 9 aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS ENTERPRISE (CVAN-65). On March 1, 1968, he was the pilot of a Grumman Attack Aircraft Intruder (A-6A) about 45 miles northeast of Hanoi, North Vietnam when his aircraft was shot down. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
