Lance Corporal Ritchey was a member of the Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 361, Marine Attack Group 16, 1st Marine Air Wing. On October 8, 1963, he was flying in a Sikorsky Seahorse Utility Helicopter (UH-34D) searching for a downed friendly aircraft. His aircraft crashed about 43 miles west of Da Nang, South Vietnam. His remains were recovered on May 29, 2002 and identified on January 26, 2004. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
