Staff Sergeant Pirker was a member of the Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 362, Marine Attack Group 36, 1st Marine Air Wing. On November 22, 1965, he was flying in a Sikorsky Seahorse Utility Helicopter (UH-34D) on a combat mission. Bad weather forced his aircraft out to sea between Chu Lai and Quang Ngai, South Vietnam and contact with the aircraft was lost. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
