Commander Peace was a member of Attack Squadron 75, Carrier Air Wing 11 aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS KITTY HAWK (CVA-63). On December 31, 1967, he was the pilot of a Grumman Attack Aircraft Intruder (A-6A) on a strike of a cave storage area in Vinh, North Vietnam when his aircraft was shot down just north of Vinh. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
