Captain Orell was a member of Attack Squadron 52, Carrier Air Wing 15 aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS CORAL SEA (CVA-43). On October 13, 1968, he was the pilot of a Grumman Attack Aircraft Intruder (A-6A) on an armed reconnaissance over North Vietnam. When he was returning from his mission he crossed the coast and was back at sea when contact was lost. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
