Private First Class McPhee was a member of Company M, 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marines, 3rd Marine Division. On April 30, 1967, he was killed while fighting the enemy west of Khe Sanh, South Vietnam. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
