Captain McKee was the pilot of a AT-6D Mosquito observation aircraft with the 6148th Tactical Air Control Squadron, 6147 Tactical Air Control Group. On October 18, 1950, while flying an air-ground control mission, his aircraft was hit by ground fire at Kajo-jong and crashed five miles east of Pyongyang, North Korea. He was presumed dead on January 31, 1954. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
