Shipfitter Master, 2nd Class McConnaughhay was a crew member of Fleet Oiler USS NAVASOTA (AO-106). On February 5, 1966, he was a passenger in a Lockheed Viking Anti-Submarine Helicopter (SH-3A) over South Vietnam when it crashed. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
