Second Lieutenant Matocha was a member of Company D, 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion, 3rd Marine Division. On April 5, 1968, he was killed by enemy small arms fire in Quang Tri Province, South Vietnam. His remains were recovered on April 20, 2004 and identified on June 17, 2004. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
