For his leadership and valor, Colonel Martin was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross, the Silver Star, the Bronze Star with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation, the Republic of Korea War Service Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
Notes
Colonel Martin was a decorated veteran of World War II. In Korea, he was placed in command of the 34th Infantry Regiment, 24th Infantry Division on July 7, 1950. The following day, he was Killed while directing the delay of the North Korean advance near Chonan, South Korea. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
