USMA Class of January, 1943, Lieutenant Colonel Lane was a veteran of World War II, serving with the 453rd Bomb Group in England. He was shot down and was held prisoner of war for sixteen months. During the Korean War, he was assigned to the War Plans Division, U.S. Air Force. On March 19, 1954, he was killed as a result of an aircraft accident.
