Captain Lamp was a member of the 16th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron. On April 12, 1969, he was the navigator of a McDonnell Phantom II Reconnaissance Fighter (RF-4C) on a mission over Lam Dong, South Vietnam when his aircraft crashed. His remains were recovered on December 13, 1993 and identified on July 19, 1995. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
