Lance Corporal Kmetyk was a member of Company C, 1st Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Marine Division. On November 14, 1967, he was killed by the enemy while on patrol southwest of Da Nang, South Vietnam. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
