Lieutenant Colonel Kieffer was a member of the 1st Special Operations Squadron. On February 11, 1970, he was the pilot of a Douglas Skyraider Attack Aircraft (A1-E) on a mission over Laos when his aircraft crashed. His remains were recovered on April 9, 2007 and identified on April 26, 2010. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
