Lieutenant Junior Grade Karger, U.S. Naval Reserve, was a member of Attack Squadron 93, Carrier Air Wing 5 aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS BON HOMME RICHARD (CVA-31). On May 14, 1968, he was the pilot of a Douglas Attack Aircraft Skyhawk (A-4F) on a strike mission over Quang Binh Province, North Vietnam when his aircraft was shot down. His remains were recovered on August 3, 1993 and identified on January 3, 1994. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
