Sergeant Jones was a member of the 57th Aviation Company, 52nd Aviation Battalion., 17 Aviation Group, 1st Aviation Brigade. On April 24, 1972, he was extracted by a Bell Iroquois Utility Helicopter (UH-1H) from Tanh Canh base camp near Dak To, Kontum Province, South Vietnam. The helicopter was hit by enemy fire and crashed. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
