First Lieutenant Imel was a member of Company C, 1st Battalion, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division. He was seriously wounded by the enemy in North Korea on June 8, 1951 and returned to duty on October 2, 1951. He was listed as Missing in Action while fighting the enemy in North Korea on October 12, 1951. He was presumed dead on December 31, 1953. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
