Gunnery Sergeant Ibanez was a member of Company A, 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion, 3rd Marine Division. On the night of June 5, 1967, he was on patrol in Quang Tri Province, South Vietnam, when he was declared missing. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
