For his leadership and valor, Master Sergeant Hovey was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross, the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation, the Republic of Korea War Service Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
Notes
Master Sergeant Hovey was a veteran of World War II. In Korea, he was a member of Company A, 1st Battalion, 17th Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action heroically fighting the enemy near Sokkogae, North Korea on July 6, 1953. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
