Lieutenant Hopps, U.S. Naval Reserve, was a member of Attack Squadron 145, Carrier Air Wing 14 aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS RANGER (CVA-61). On February 10, 1966, he was the pilot of a Douglas Attack Skyraider (A-1H) over North Vietnam when his aircraft crashed. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
