First Lieutenant Hogue was awarded the Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Purple Heart, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.

First Lieutenant Hogue was the pilot of a F-86A Sabre Jet fighter bomber with the 334th Fighter-Interceptor Squadron, 4th Fighter-Interceptor Group. On December 13, 1951, while on a combat mission in the Sinanju area, his flight of four F-86s was attacked by a flight of four MiGs. He was listed as Missing in Action and was presumed dead on December 31, 1953. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
