Private First Class Harris was a member of the Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 163, Marine Air Group 16, 1st Marine Air Wing. On March 13, 1967, he was flying in a Sikorsky Seahorse Utility Helicopter (UH-34D) over Quang Tri Province, South Vietnam, when his aircraft crashed. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
