Gunnery Sergeant Harris was a member of Headquarters Battery, 3rd Battalion, 11th Marines, 1st Marine Division. He was assigned as a radioman with the South Vietnamese company operating in Quang Ngai Province, South Vietnam. On June 12, 1966, he was declared missing when his company was overrun by Viet Cong forces. Some witnesses claim he was taken prisoner. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
