Commander Hall was a member of Attack Squadron 86, Carrier Air Wing 8 aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS AMERICA (CVA-66). On October 28, 1972, he was the pilot of a Vought Attack Aircraft Corsair II (A-7C) on a mission over Thanh Hoa, Thanh Hoa Province, North Vietnam when his aircraft was shot down 5 miles west of Thanh Hoa. His remains were recovered on July 31, 1989 and identified on January 28, 2000. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
