For his leadership and valor, Lieutenant Junior Grade Hagge was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with Gold Star, the Navy Commendation Ribbon, the Purple Heart, the Combat Action Ribbon, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.

Lieutenant Junior Grade Hagge was the pilot of an AD-4 Skyraider dive bomber with Attack Squadron 145 (702) aboard the carrier USS KEARSARGE (CVA-33). On February 8, 1953, while on a "Cherokee" mission, his aircraft was hit by anti-aircraft fire and crashed approximately 20 miles north of Hwachon Reservoir, North Korea. He was presumed dead June 14, 1954.
