Major Hagan was the pilot of a F9F-2 Panther Jet fighter with Marine Fighter Squadron 311, Marine Air Group 33, 1st Marine Air Wing. On May 11, 1952, while on a combat mission under cloudy conditions, his aircraft collided with an Air Force L-19 Bird Dog, lost its wing and crashed. He was listed as Missing in Action and was presumed dead on January 8, 1954. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
