Captain Hagan was a member of Headquarters Company, Headquarters Battalion, 3rd Marine Division. On May 6, 1969, he was a crew member of a Cessna Bird Dog Observation Aircraft (O-1G) flying over Laos when contact with the aircraft was lost. His remains were recovered on March 29, 1996 and identified on November 1, 1996. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
