Lieutenant Commander Griffith was a member of Attack Squadron 35, Carrier Air Wing 9 aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS ENTERPRISE (CVAN-65). On March 12, 1968, he was the bombardier/navigator of a Grumman Attack Aircraft Intruder (A-6A). On the launch from the carrier his aircraft malfunctioned and ditched from the carried. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
