Commander Green was a member of Attack Squadron 212, Carrier Air Wing 21 aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS HANCOCK (CVA-19). On July 10, 1972, he was the pilot of a Douglas Attack Aircraft Skyhawk (A-4F) on a night armed reconnaissance over North Vietnam. After an attack on a convoy of trucks, his aircraft crashed. His remains were recovered and identified on November 1, 2010. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
