First Lieutenant Fryer was a member of the 441st Bomber Squadron, 72nd Strategic Wing, Andersen Air Force Base, Guam. On December 28, 1972, he was the navigator of a Boeing Stratofortress Bomber (B-52D) on a bombing mission between Hanoi and Haiphong, North Vietnam. The bomber received a surface to air Missile hit, killing him and causing the bomber to crash. His remains were recovered on September 30, 1977 and identified on October 25, 1977. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
