Captain Ellison was a member of Attack Squadron 85, Carrier Air Wing 11 aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS KITTY HAWK (CVA-63). On March 24, 1967, he was the pilot of a Grumman Attack Aircraft Intruder (A-6A) to suppress surface to air missile sites around the Bac Giang Thermal Power Plant in North Vietnam. After completing the mission the aircraft continued north about 11 miles the contact was lost. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
