Lieutenant Commander Egan was a member of Attack Squadron 215, Carrier Air Wing 21 aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS HANCOCK (CVA-19). On April 29, 1966, he was the pilot of a Douglas Attack Skyraider (A-1H) over Khammouan Province, Laos when his aircraft crashed. His remains were recovered in 2009 and identified on February 11, 2011. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
