Lieutenant Commander Dooley, U.S. Naval Reserve, was a member of Attack Squadron 163, Carrier Air Wing 16 aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS ORISKANY (CVA-34). On October 22, 1967, he was the pilot of a Douglas Attack Aircraft Skyhawk (A-4E) attacking the railroad yard at Haiphong, North Vietnam when he hit by anti-aircraft fire. He headed towards the Gulf of Tonkin and crashed about one mile offshore. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
