Gunnery Sergeant Dingwall was a member of the Marine Attack Squadron 225, Marine Attack Group 12, 1st Marine Air Wing. On July 8, 1965, he was declared missing while hiking outside Chu Lai Air Base, South Vietnam. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
